A SERVICE MODEL FOR ADDRESSING GRIEF AND LOSS

Funded by The City of Toronto’s Shelter, Support and Housing Administration (SSHA)- Early in 2022, the TSN undertook the Grief and Loss project with an aim of improving the capacity of the shelter system to manage grief and loss in the workplace .

This project sought to:

  •  Improve understanding of best practices in the delivery of resilience and of grief and loss programs that can be adapted to the shelter sector.

  • Improve access to tools, training and resources that can support shelter service providers to implement best practice grief and loss programming.

  • Improve the capacity of individuals, teams and organizations to respond to and heal from loss and traumatic events.

Guided by an Advisory Committee comprised of front line and management staff, this project produced a Grief and Loss Service Model that shelters can adapt to their individual settings and which can provide a standard/framework for SSHA to implement for the sector as a whole.
