  • The Novavax Nuvaxovid vaccine (also known as Novavax) was authorized for use by Health Canada on February 17, 2022, for adults aged 18+.

  • For adults (18+) unable (due to allergy) or unwilling to get an mRNA vaccine, Novavax Nuvaxovid is another option instead of a mRNA vaccine.

Educational Resources for COVID-19 Booster Dose

Here is the latest on eligibility for first, second and third (booster) doses.

  • Anyone born in 2016 or earlier is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

  • Anyone born in 2016 or earlier is eligible to get your second dose if you:

    • Received your first dose of a Pfizer vaccine at least 21 days ago

    • Received your first dose of Moderna vaccine at least 28 days ago

    • Received your first dose of AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD at least 8 weeks ago

· Anyone age 18 and over is eligible to receive your third (booster) dose, 3 months (84 days) after your second dose. Appointment bookings are available through City-run clinics, Indigenous-led vaccination clinics, hospital and community clinics, select pharmacies and primary care settings. Learn more about third (booster) doses.

Fourth (booster) dose eligibility

  • As of July 14th 2022, individuals age 18 and over are eligible for a second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine if their first booster was at least five months earlier.

  • Anyone 18 years old and older may receive a second booster at a recommended interval of 5 months (140 days) or at a minimum of 3 months (84 days), after their first booster dose.

  • Individuals who are at higher risk of severe disease from COVID-19 infection are recommended to get the second dose booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine as soon as they become eligible, including:

    • People 60 years of age or older

    • First Nation, Inuit and Métis adults and their non-Indigenous household members (18+)

    • Residents of long-term care homes, retirement homes, Elder Care Lodges and older adults living in other congregate settings providing assisted-living and health services

    • Moderately or severely immunocompromised individuals (18 years of age and older)

ParentHomework.ca is a new website that provides families with trusted information about COVID-19 vaccination for children. A four-week campaign kicked off this week, featuring TV and digital advertising, social media content and the website – www.parenthomework.ca. It was created by the Children's Health Coalition, a collective of children's health organizations including The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), CHEOCHEO, McMaster Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital – London Health Sciences Centre, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Children’s Mental Health Ontario, Empowered Kids Ontario and Kids Health Alliance. Share the website with families looking to learn more about COVID-19 vaccination.
