The Toronto Shelter Network conference provides a unique opportunity for 24-hour emergency homelessness providers (shelter, respite and 24-hour drop-in providers) to share and learn from their peers. It is also a chance for community partners, policy makers, researchers, those with lived experience, and others to engage with the shelter sector.
The conference offers practical opportunities for learning, knowledge sharing, and collaboration through workshops, panel presentations, and forum discussions.
2025 conference re-cap
This years theme “Organizational Wellness and Equity: A Journey Towards Decolonization and Reclaiming Values” brought together sector leaders to reimagine organizations as spaces of wellness, justice, and joy.
The day opened in ceremony with Knowledge Carrier Jode Kechego, followed by remarks from Mayor Olivia Chow and TSN President David Reycraft. Dr. Prentiss Dantzler’s keynote challenged attendees to envision systems grounded in equity and collective care.
Workshops throughout the day explored decolonized approaches to staff care, centering Black wellness, integrating occupational therapy practices, and rethinking organizational culture. The afternoon featured a powerful plenary, The Future We Practice: Wellness, Equity, Decolonization, moderated by Kadiatu Barrie, and concluded with closing reflections from Gord Tanner (TSSS).
Rooted in ceremony and connection, the 2025 conference inspired participants to continue the journey toward decolonization and to build organizations that embody wellness, equity, and shared purpose.
